Being in His Presence

By Barbara J. Scott
When is the last time you felt the presence of God in your life in a way that you cannot describe? Maybe when you were in prayer, or ministering to someone, or worshiping God. There may have been times when all of a sudden you just began to cry and couldn't explain why. This is how it happens to me. I don't hear anything but I just feel His presence and I feel so loved by God. What a wonderful feeling!!!
Being in His Presence

When is the last time you felt the presence of God in your life in a way that you cannot describe?  Maybe when you were in prayer, or ministering to someone, or worshiping God.  There may have been times when all of a sudden you just began to cry and couldn't explain why.  This is how it happens to me.  I don't hear anything but I just feel His presence and I feel so loved by God.  What a wonderful feeling!!!  Are you in the position, spiritually where God will speak to you in a very special way, to encourage you and energize you?  Imagine how the disciples must have felt when Jesus came to them and told them to go and teach all nations.  All nations?  Without airplane, train, buses or cars?  This seemed like an impossible task, and I'm sure they had many questions.  Then Jesus said, "and, lo, I Am with you always, even unto the end of the world."  What a relief that must have been!!! The presence of Jesus always in their lives.  We need to understand that God is everywhere, but not everywhere in the same way.  He is everywhere present in our lives, but Proverbs 15:29 says, "The LORD is far from the wicked: but He heareth the prayers of the righteous."  In the life of those who are sinful and far from Him He is present in their lives in a very different way.  We know He is present because He reigns on the just and the unjust.

Sometimes in our lives, God just "shows up".  We are aware that He is doing something powerful in our life; we see Him moving and we know that it is nobody but God.  He wants us to know Him personally in a real and living way, so that unmistakably, we know that it is God Almighty. How do you define, "the presence of God"?  The presence of God is God revealing Himself for a special purpose.  This is why the place of the Holy Spirit in our lives is absolutely essential.  When the Holy Spirit comes in, He regenerates us and gives us a new life; a life energized by His power: and it is this energizing power within us and overflowing, which enables us to communicate with God.  "They that worship God must worship Him in Spirit and in truth".  God desires to make Himself know to us.  He wants us to be able to feel His presence whenever He chooses to make Himself known, in an undeniable way.  God makes Himself known in the way that will fit us individually.  He appeared to Joshua in the form of an angel with a sword in His hand.  The Lord visited Gideon and told him that he had too many men for God to give the Midianites into their hands.  These men knew indeed that this was the presence of God, because they knew they would not have gone into battle the way God told them to go. He gave them clear directions on what to do and they followed those directions.  Remember, He visited Moses in a burning bush.  God's ways are awesome, and He has so many ways to manifest His glory in our lives.

Think about Peter in the presence of Jesus.  He was able to walk on water; and as soon as he was out of the presence of Jesus, Peter denied Him three times.  We have to stay close to Jesus and not walk "afar off" as Peter did.  God has a plan, a purpose, and a will for our lives; and He is willing to get involved in our lives to fulfill what He desires for us.  The presence of God is real!!!  Pray and ask God to reveal Himself to you; tell Him that you are totally available to hear Him and to do His will and that you want Him to show up and reveal His presence in any way He wants to.  We all have a tailor-made relationship with God.  It fits you and no one else.  He is a personal God.  Think about this: there was only one incident of a burning bush; there was only one incident of a stone killing a giant; there was only one incident of a man walking on water, and only one incident of a man wrestling with an angel. When you are in the presence of God you are able to see things from God's perspective.  Remember the story of Elisha up against a mighty host, and his servant being fearful because there were so many.  Elisha prayed and asked God to open the young man's eyes so that he could see.  And God showed the servant that the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha.  The presence of God truly energizes the believer so that we have no need to fear anything.  He enables us to see what no one else can see.  Stay in the position where God can reveal Himself to you whenever He wants to and how ever He wants to.  "Thou wilt show me the path of life: in Thy presence is fullness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." Psalm 16:11.
