God Will Supply

By Barbara J. Scott
When we focus on money and things – possessions, we put them before God and forget about Him. Jesus said it is hard for a rich man to enter into heaven. Why is this so? Because he feels he has all he needs and doesn't need God, the One who has the whole world in His hands. A rich man depends on his riches and possessions to gain whatever happiness he needs in life: not realizing that the mammon is temporal and will pass away.
God Will Supply

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught us many things about how to live this life the way God meant for us to live.  In Matthew 6:24-34, He teaches us to trust and depend on Him for all that we need in life. We cannot serve God and the deceitfulness of riches and the pleasures of this world.  Money and riches certainly can keep our minds on things, and not on God.  We become materialistic and loose site of Who God is. "Mammon" becomes our god and the mall our church. When we realize that Jesus is our Source for all our needs we don't have to worry about clothes, food and shelter. God is our Father, and a good father will not leave his children without their physical needs supplied, the necessities of life. If earthly fathers will provide for their children, how much more will God our Father, care for us, His children?  He owns the cattle on a thousand hills; all riches come from Him. "Both riches and honor come from You and You reign over all." 1 Chronicles 29:12.

It will not last forever and he certainly cannot take it with him when he leaves this life.  Have you ever seen a moving truck being pulled behind a hearse? It's all left behind! The Word of God tells us that the wealth of the wicked is laid up for the just. (Proverbs 13:22). When they leave this earth all they possess and worshiped will be for the children of God, to be used for His kingdom.

So, what is the solution to having all our needs met without falling into the sin of denying God?  Make Him the Center of all of our efforts. Jesus said, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33. Put Him first in your life and focus your mind on having a right relationship with Him; and all these things, these possessions, and necessities of life will be given to you. Philippians 4:19 says, "But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." There is no limit to the riches in the kingdom of God. When we put Him first and His kingdom; doing His will and obeying His Word, He says our eyes have not seen, our ears have not heard, neither can our minds conceive of the things that He has prepared for those who love Him and put their trust in Him (1 Corinthians 2:9). He loves us and wants us to be totally dependent on Him for everything in our lives; not some things, but everything: because He is the only One who can supply our every need and give us more than enough blessings.  He wants the best for His children and if we put Him first in our lives that is exactly what we will have.  "Fear not, little flock; for it is the Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Luke 12:32.
