Keep Your Bag Packed

Some people do a lot of traveling and are constantly packing their luggage. My mother had a friend who never emptied her luggage because she traveled a lot. Well, it depends on where you are going, what you carry in your bag. One year my sister and I traveled together to our family reunion in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Now, my sister is a real bag packer; she will start packing weeks ahead of her trip, putting things in her bag as she remembers them, making sure she doesn't forget anything. I, on the other hand, am a last-minute packer; especially my clothes, because I can't stand how they get wrinkled in the suitcase. So of course, at the last minute I am running around trying to make sure I didn't leave out anything. How many of you know that it is best to pack your things as you think about them, instead of waiting until the last minute?

First of all, we had to realize that we were flying and there are many rules, regulations and instructions we have to take into consideration; including your arrival time at the airport (at least two hours before your flight). Your bags have to be a certain weight and size; and the number of bags you can carry on the airplane. We all need to pack our bags with our mind on that flight we have to take. Jesus said He is coming back for those who are looking for His appearing. We've got to have our bags and our tickets ready. There are some things we dare not try to place in our bags because there is a scanner at the safety check that will reveal what is in your bag. The Holy Ghost is our "Scanner" and He will reveal what is in our bags. In God's Word, it tells us what we can't take with us. (Colossians 3:5-9). We must get rid of all earthy sinful things lurking within us: sexual sins, lust, impurity, shameful desires. You cannot pack this stuff in your travel bag. You can't be greedy and full of idolatry. Don't pack anger, rage, and malicious behavior in your bag; neither talking evil about people and using dirty language. Remember, what comes out of the mouth is coming from the heart. Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and when you curse someone you are dealing death to that soul. We cannot pack this garbage in our bags because the "Scanner" will pick it up, and the "Security Guard" which is the Word of God, will tell you that you have to get rid of it if you want to get on that flight. You will have to get rid of lying of any kind; living it, speaking it, acting it; none of it will pass the "Scanner".

Now these are the clothes you may take with you. In fact, you are required to take these items on this flight: tenderhearted mercy and kindness, because someone is going to need you to help them along the way. They may need you to direct them to a certain place in the airport of life. You will also need humility, because someone will inevitably get in your way and try to stumble you with their baggage, to try to be first in line to get on the flight. And if we all have our ticket, it doesn't matter who gets on first, your seat is already reserved. You will need to pack gentleness and patience, because sometimes there may seem to be a delay in the time of the arrival of your flight. And because we don't know what is happening, we tend to become impatient. But God is the Pilot in control and He is working it out, and the flight will arrive and leave on time; according to God's time table.  We must pack forgiveness, because sometimes along the trip you may feel a cool breeze of offense, and forgiveness will keep you warm and comfortable. Most of all, we must pack love. This is the most important piece of clothing in our bag. It goes with everything else we have to wear and it compliments every other garment in our bag.

There are large wastebaskets in the scanning area so that as you go through, you can discard what you can't take with you. If you haven't already, start packing now! Pack carefully and keep your bag packed. "And whosoever you do in word or deed, do all in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him." Colossians 3:17.
