If you are a mother, think about your first born and the fear you may have had in your heart because you didn't know how to handle this new tiny little creature. You had total responsibility to take care of this baby, to nurture him/her, teaching, guiding in the right direction. You had no idea what raising a child would entail. You had no idea that there would be heartache and pain in your life while raising this child. All you can see now is a tiny little baby who will certainly need your help, your love, your care.
Mary had a Baby and she named Him, Jesus. Imagine what must have been going on in Mary's heart and mind. The Bible says, "She pondered all these things in her heart." "Jesus is here, now, Father; what do I do with Him? How do I raise this Son that You have given me responsibility over?" You may be one who is reading this and is pregnant right now with your first born. Are you praying, seeking the Father, asking questions so that you will know what to do with your baby; how to raise him/her up in "the nurture and admonition of the Lord"? The Father has all the answers. Mary was not alone in caring for Baby Jesus and as He grew and "increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man", the Father was with her all the time. The Holy Ghost was there to guide and direct her, teaching her what to do, what to say, how to train Jesus in His early life. Then, at the age of twelve, Jesus let Mary know that He knew why He was here; He knew the work that the Father had sent Him to do. Mary didn't know, as she held this precious Gift in her arms, that Jesus would one day be healing the sick, raising the dead, making blind men see (spiritually and physically): she had no idea how the Father would be working in His life. She did know that He would one day "save His people from their sin", but she did not know how it was going to happen and she was certainly not prepared for Calvary.
As parents, we make plans for our children, we have dreams and aspirations of what we want them to become in life; how we want them to prosper and contribute to the good in this world. But it doesn't always come out that way. The Bible says that man makes plans but God is the One Who carries them out. Our plans may not be what God has predestinated for the life of our children. He knows what He wants them to be and do in life. No, Mary didn't know how Jesus' life would play out and we don't know how our children's lives will play out. But we know Who has them in His hands and that there is power in prayer. As we pray and keep them before the Lord for His will to be done in their lives, we can have the blessed assurance that it will work out for their good. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28.

I was in a church service one time when there was a "prophet" praying for the people. After a time, he called for an offering and had his mind totally on the offering instead of the people coming for prayer. One man went for prayer while the offering was being taken and the "prophet" told the man to come back to another service and then he would pray for him.

When we focus on money and things – possessions, we put them before God and forget about Him. Jesus said it is hard for a rich man to enter into heaven. Why is this so? Because he feels he has all he needs and doesn't need God, the One who has the whole world in His hands. A rich man depends on his riches and possessions to gain whatever happiness he needs in life: not realizing that the mammon is temporal and will pass away.

In this day and time men need encouragement like never before. They need to know that they are loved and very much need in this world. They also need Godly wisdom and understanding of the ways of the kingdom of God. Jesus is our supreme example in how to live as holy men of God. He prayed often to the Father, putting His earthly life completely in God's hands.
