Don't Even Think About It!

By Barbara J. Scott
If you debate for a second when God has spoken, it is all over. Never begin to say – "Well, I wonder if He did speak?" Be reckless immediately, fling it all out on Him; just as Peter did when he stepped out of that boat. He didn't even think about whether he was going to sink or not. He knew at that moment that Jesus was able to do exceedingly above all that he could ask or think. So, he without hesitation, stepped out of that boat and headed for Jesus.
Don't Even Think About It!

"And He said, Come, And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me." Matthew 14:29-30.

The wind was actually boisterous, the waves were actually high, but Peter did not see them at first.  He did not consider them, he simply recognized his Lord, stepped out of that boat in recognition of Him and walked on the water.  Then he began to reckon with the actual things, and down he went instantly.  Jesus could have enabled him to walk at the bottom of the waves as well as on the top of them.  But neither could be done unless Peter recognized Who Jesus was.  We step right out on God over some things, then self-consideration enters in and down we go.  If you are recognizing your Lord, you have no concern with where He engineers your circumstances.  The actual things are, but as soon as you look at them you are overwhelmed, you cannot recognize Jesus, and the rebuke comes: "Wherefore didst thou doubt?"

You do not know when Jesus' voice will come, but whenever the realization of God comes in the faintest way imaginable; recklessly throw yourself into His care.  It is only by abandon, not leaning on our own understanding, but trusting Jesus completely, that we recognize Him.  He says, "I will never leave you no forsake you." Hebrews 13:5b.  He says, "Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I Am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30.  First Peter 5:7 says, "Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you."  Jesus wants to carry our burdens, all of them.  But we choose to give Him only part of them.  Or if we do give it to the Lord, we end up taking it back at some point, and sinking as Peter did.  The song says, "Take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there."  Let actual circumstances, be what they may, keep recognizing Jesus, maintain complete reliance on Him.  He is more than able to handle every situation, every circumstance, to bring us through every trial.

Don't even think about it!  Just fling it all on Jesus; recognizing Who He is: recognizing that, "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." Psalm 23:1: recognizing, "But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19: recognizing that, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Philippians 4:13: recognizing that I don't have to worry about anything because He says, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7.  Do we recognize that He is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider?  He is more than enough.

Jesus is the promise Maker and the promise Keeper.  All we have to do is step out on that water, stand on the Word of God, and don't even think about it!  Because it is the Master's voice that you hear calling for you to come to Him.  And He has no intentions of ever leaving you hanging out there by yourself.  Recognize that He is faithful and true to His Word.  Put on your water-walking shoes, stay focused on Jesus, and don't even think about it!
