In the Bible in the Book of Second Kings, there is a story of a widow woman with two sons, and she owed money that she could not pay. She called on Elisha to help her because the creditor was going to take her sons to be his slaves in payment of the money she owed. Elisha asked her what did she have in her house. She told him that all she had was a pot of oil. (2 Kings 4:2&3). There are times when God allows us to get to our lowest ebb so that He can show us just how great He is. We often tend to forget that "little is much in the Master's hand." The widow woman thought that she only had an insignificant little pot of oil. She did not realize the power she had in her home. She did not realize that she had all the resources she needed right there in her house!
Oil represents the Holy Ghost, and Jesus said, "Ye shall have power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Acts 1:8. When we have the Holy Ghost on the inside, the "pot of oil in our house", God will use us to fill a lot of empty vessels, if we let Him. He will enlarge our boarders so that we can reach many souls for His kingdom, and they will also be full of the Holy Ghost and be able to be used by God. As long as there are vessels to fill, the oil doesn't run out. But we must be willing to listen and be obedient to the Master's voice. The widow woman didn't question Elisha at all. She didn't try to figure out what He was up to, nor did she feel, "He couldn't mean for me to do what he is telling me to do." She just stepped out on faith and followed Elisha's instructions. He told her to get empty vessels. Make sure there is nothing in them, because I can't use them if they are not empty. God wants us to come before Him as empty vessels; no pride, no haughtiness, no feeling, "I can do this on my own, I don't need God's help." Or, "I've been to school, I have a degree, I know what I am doing." Empty vessels! God can use empty vessels! When He pours His Holy Spirit into empty vessels, they become powerhouses. And a powerhouse sends out electrical energy to other houses and "not a few", but to as many as you are willing to witness to.
What do you have in your house? If you have a little oil in your pot, God can take it and use it for His glory. Elisha told the widow woman to go to all her neighbors, not just those close by but go abroad and get empty vessels. There are empty vessels in our lives just waiting to be filled. Are we bringing them in? Are we using what we have in our houses, are we being the witnesses for Christ that He sent us out to be to our neighbors, far and wide? Step out on faith and use what you have; use what you have and watch God use what He has for you. "For we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." 2 Corinthians 4:7.
