In Times of Suffering

By Evangelist Vera Robinson
It doesn't matter what it looks like. Sometimes God allows us to go through suffering so that we may get rid of the things that entangle us; so that He can draw us closer to Him; He wants us to be closer.
In Times of Suffering

"Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come unto Thee. Hide not Thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline Thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily. By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin." Psalm 102:1, 2 & 5.

When we read this Psalm we see that it is a prayer of affliction.  This man (it doesn't say his name or where he comes from), is pouring out his struggles in prayer.  There is no doubt that he is going through some extremely difficult times. He is pleading with God not to hide His face from him; pleading for God to listen to his prayer and to answer right away.  He is in a condition where he feels all dried up inside; his bones are burning and he doesn't even remember to eat, so much so that he is just skin and bones. Wow! What a state to be in. He even said that he feels like he is at the end of his life, feeling forsaken by God, not able to feel His presence with him.  But deep down on the inside, he knows that God reigns forever, he knows God is merciful and he expects God to hear his prayer and to pour out His mercy on him. He held onto the truth of Who he knew God to be. When we are going through, even though it may be hard, we must listen for a word from God, and hold onto and ride upon the weight of that word.  I believe that because this man held onto the Word of God, and he clung to it and believed it; that God wrote this testimony in the Bible and that God attended to his cry. He held on and it was his faith that hooked into the Word of God.

When I was a child, my Mom and Grandmom would go fishing using a hook to catch the fish. There were different kinds and sizes of hooks, depending on the kind of fish they were fishing for.  The kind of hook they used had more than one part to it, and this is the hook I have in mind when I think about faith and the Word together; which forms one big piece, even though our faith may be the size of a mustard seed, it would not be able to slip out from under the Word of God.  It takes all of faith in the midst of suffering, in the times of storm, it takes our faith to be hooked to the Word of God. Faith must line up with what we believe. Many times we do not see the manifestation of God because our word and what we think and what we believe, does not fit in alignment with or agree with the Word of God. But when your word agrees with what you confess: not worrying, not doubting, not fearful; you can stand firm on the Word of God, regardless of what may come; because you are going to hook your faith to the Word that fits your situation in the midst of that storm; and you are going to ride out that time of suffering, because you know that God won't fail you. He has told you He will not leave you nor forsake you; and that is all you need to know. Sometimes we try to understand everything. If we could just understand one thing, and that is to hook your faith to the Word of God for that which you are going through in your very present situation.  If it is a financial need, hook your faith into, "But my God shall supply all your need". If you need a healing, hook your faith into the Word that says, "Healing is the children's bread". If you are going through in your mind and the enemy is trying to mess with your mind with depression and oppression; hook your faith in the Word that says, "God has not give us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." And if you feel like you are in a difficult time and that God is far away from you; even though you may feel that way, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is true. Remember that God is ever present. Don't get hooked on your emotions. Hook onto the Word of God, because God loves you, He'll never turn His back on you, He will not fail you. Because you are not consumed, you can stand firm in your faith and decree that God is always on your side . It doesn't matter what it looks like. Sometimes God allows us to go through suffering so that we may get rid of the things that entangle us; so that He can draw us closer to Him; He wants us to be closer.  Don't ever let the devil trick your mind into believing that God does not love you and that He has forgotten about you. Know that He loves you and He stays close by your side. Be encouraged, always remain constant in your prayer; prayer opens up the heavens, that God may come down in your situation; and He listens to your prayer and is always willing to help you; because you are His covenant daughter through the Blood of Jesus Christ.
